The Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics (AGUA) Swim Team dominated the 2016 Metropolitan Swimming Junior Olympics March 11 to March 13, bringing home the overall team title as well as the combined 11-12 and 13-14 age group titles. AGUA swimmers rose to the occasion, beating meet-favorite Long Island Aquatic Club’s (LIAC), who held a 15-year winning streak.

The AGUA Swim Team won the meet with a score of 3,328 to LIAC’s 2,680.5. Friday night, our athletes started the competition strong, winning the first two individual events (13-14 girls and boys 400 IM) as well as three relays, setting new Junior Olympic records in the process. The team carried its momentum into Saturday, extending its lead by winning the 200 IMs and piling up more points throughout the competition. The team closed out the second day with a comfortable 350-point lead going into the last day of the meet.

As the adrenaline grew and the excitement of winning became palpable, AGUA swimmers poured on the pressure, finishing strong on third and final night of championships. AGUA nabbed the top spot in six individual events, including a clean sweep of the 13-14 girls 200 backstroke and a fingernail victory in the 13-14 boys 50 freestyle.
