Top talent from Asphalt Green’s Community Sports Leagues basketball teams came together for an All-Star game Saturday, March 5. The free league gives middle school students the opportunity to participate in organized sports. Coaches and school representatives nominated two boys and three girls from each team to participate in the match at our Battery Park City campus.

Four teams were formed from the players nominated: a boys Green Team and Blue Team and a girls Green Team and Blue Team. About 100 spectators—family, friends, coaches, and teammates—showed up to cheer on the all-stars. The crowd infused energy into the gymnasium, creating an electric atmosphere and big-game feel.

All athletes showed a lot of heart and great effort from tipoff until the final whistle. After two wire-to-wire games from both the girls and boys, the Green Team came out victorious by a score of 28-16 on the girls’ side, and the Blue Team edged out the Green Team on the boys’ side 43-36. Kadaja Jackson and Jay Jaudon were named the MVPs for their outstanding performances.

The All-Star game celebrated the accomplishments of the standout Community Sports Leagues athletes and provided them the opportunity to compete with students from other schools. Scroll through the pictures above to relive the action!

THE HARRIS FAMILY CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

We would like to acknowledge the Harris Family Charitable Foundation for its expanded support of our Community Sports Leagues basketball program. The foundation fully funds the league, and we are able to provide more opportunities for students because of its generous contribution. The Harris Family Charitable Foundation makes events like the All-Star game possible and helps to instill a lifelong appreciation for sports and fitness in kids. Together with Asphalt Green, the foundation believes all children can succeed when given opportunities that help them build the right skills and motivation. We are grateful and look forward to the future of our Community Sports Leagues with the foundation’s support.
