Asphalt Green’s programs reach people both on and off of our 5½-acre campus. In order to reach as many New Yorkers as possible, we have developed partnerships with organizations around the city.
We have collaborated with the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA). Asphalt Green wrote and published DFTA’s curriculum for training volunteers to deliver an exercise program to seniors. This Stay Well Exercise Program is conducted at 175 senior centers by over 400 volunteers who have been trained using the new curriculum. Asphalt Green also worked with DFTA to design a Walking Clubs program and to conduct trainings for over 250 volunteers. These trainings have led to the establishment of 135 walking clubs throughout the 5 boroughs, and an annual “Senior Stroll” event that has involved as many as 2000 seniors.
Asphalt Green has also partnered with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and Columbia Presbyterian to bring “Wake Up New York,” a seven-week physical education program for children, families and adults, to New Yorkers at risk of obesity.
