Summer Day Camp Scholarships
As long as we have run camp, Asphalt Green has given Summer Day Camp Scholarships. For many children, the excitement and adventure of camp is made possible by the generosity of others. Each year, we receive hundreds of applications from families expressing stories of genuine need and struggle. Every story is a tribute to the necessity of our scholarship program.
One scholarship mother wrote to us to about how the structure of camp has helped her son grow in “leaps and bounds,” and enabled him to overcome challenges:
Mere words can never fully express what Asphalt Green has done for my son. Camp helped build his character and social skills. It helped him have self confidence. I can’t say enough about what Summer Camp has done. Asphalt Green has been a treasure!
We have seen the impact of scholarships on everyone at camp: from children to parents to our own Asphalt Green camp counselors and staff. Campers experience a rewarding summer of activity and adventure, and we all benefit from bringing children of different backgrounds together to play and learn.

Coins for Campers
To support our Summer Day Camp Scholarships, our campers participated in a coin drive called Coins for Campers the week of July 11-15. We had 100% camp participation and raised $13,358.54 in one week! Thank you to our camp families for breaking last year’s record to help us bring more children to camp. Our campers had a great time searching couch cushions and raising money in all different ways:

One child and his mom had a lemonade stand. They raised $100 on a hot summer day.
- A five-year-old boy brought in his entire piggy bank. His mom said he had quite a collection, but when he decided to give his whole piggy bank to Asphalt Green, the rest of the family also pitched in.
- And, lastly, one of our scholarship recipients asked her family and friends for loose change. She's having so much fun and wants others to get the chance she's had.
To show kids that helping others can be fun, this was a competition. Congratulations to Panda 3 who raised the most money as a group: $1,044.86! They will celebrate with a special party at the Soft Serve Fruit Company. Our Divisional winners (Teddy 1, Gummy 5, Panda 4, Koala 1, and Blue Jay 1) will have a swim party with Youth Sports Director Mike Bailey. All of our campers are winners and receive a gift card to Soft Serve Fruit Company on
