The Power of Play
Asphalt Green is known for our excellence in sports and fitness. Beyond our competitive teams and Olympic-caliber athletes, we understand that play can be a force for positive change. It encourages active living, family and peer-bonding, teamwork and self-confidence.
Sports and play foster the social, emotional and physical development of children. This transformative concept is at the heart of all of our programs, including our Recess Enhancement Program (REP) in schoolyards throughout the city, our Community Sports Leagues for middle school children, program classes for all ages and during our free community events like The Big Swim, Asphalt Screams, The Snowman Showdown and Get Outside & Play!
We’re teaching kids more than fun games and physical challenges. We’re helping them learn teamwork and how to resolve conflict, which carries over into the classroom and throughout life.
Download our Get Outside and Play! Guide and Calendar and get fit and have fun with your family.
Here’s one of our favorite games, to get you and your family started!
Celebrity Tag
All ages, only 4 players needed!
Players: 1 celebrity, 1 photographer, and 2 or more bodyguards.
Step 1: The celebrity and bodyguards JOIN HANDS and make a circle around a place marker (anything can work — a shoe, a cup, a ball, etc.)
Step 2: The photographer RUNS AROUND the outside of the circle trying to “take a picture” of the celebrity by tagging him/her.
Step 3: The bodyguards PROTECT the celebrity by turning the circle to the left or right while holding hands and keeping the marker between them.
Remember:
- All players SWITCH ROLES once a “picture” has been taken.
- TAG GENTLY on the shoulder.
- NO reaching across the circle!
Have a little fun and act as your FAVORITE CELEBRITY during your turn.
