Congratulations to Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics Swim Team coaches and athletes for a successful weekend at the 2015 Age Group Eastern Zone Championships. The meet was held August 5 to August 8 in Richmond, Virginia.

According to USA Swimming, Zone Championships feature the top regional swimmers at the Senior and Age Group levels. Athletes qualify for these meets within the four designated Zones: Eastern, Central, Southern, and Western.

Asphalt Green was well represented at the meet, qualifying 11 swimmers and having two coaches selected—Tomoko Naka and Andy Copley—to lead the team.

Our athletes helped the Metropolitan Swimming Zone Team to a third-place overall finish. Kiana Guarino and Adell Sabovic made splashes in finals. Guarino took fourth place overall in the 100-meter backstroke, and Sabovic came storming from behind in the 50-meter freestyle to bring home the silver medal and smash his own team record in a time of 26.86 seconds.

In addition to our athletes’ success, our coaches made us proud on the pool deck. It’s an honor to be selected as a coach for the meet. Just eight coaches were chosen from the greater New York metropolitan area by Metro Swimming, the governing body of the sport. The experience gives our coaches the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best swimmers in the region.

Congratulations on a great season! Go AGUA!
