Become a certified American Red Cross lifeguard at Asphalt Green. This Lifeguard Course will teach you the skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency care service personnel take over. You will learn emergency saving techniques like first aid and CPR. This class requires a minimum of 26 cumulative hours both in and out of the water and requires attendance for all scheduled classes. If you successfully complete this class, you will receive a two year certification in lifeguarding, which includes first aid, CPR for the professional rescuer and AED in one certificate.

Class Prerequisites:

Candidates must be able to swim 300 yards of freestyle or breaststroke demonstrating both breath control and rhythmic breathing. You will also need to complete a timed event starting with a 20 yard swim, followed by a surface dive and retrieving a 10-pound brick from a minimum depth of seven feet. Also must be able to tread water for two minutes using proper kick.
