Asphalt Green Announces Selection of New Chief Program Officer Jeff Ward

Asphalt Green announced today the appointment of Jeffrey H. Ward, as the organization’s new Chief Program Officer.  “We are thrilled to have Jeff join our team,” stated Executive Director Maggy Siegel.  “Everyone involved in the search process agreed that his extensive experience and his passion for sports and fitness for all ages, makes him a perfect fit for Asphalt Green.”

As Chief Program Officer, Ward is charged with ensuring that Asphalt Green is providing the highest quality of programs for all New Yorkers.  “I’m a big believer that how you teach or coach is at least as important as what you teach or coach,” said Ward.  “Our foundation is strong, but we will always look to be on the cutting edge of best practices in each area. The richness and diversity of offering gives so some opportunities that few can match.  For example, our expertise in fitness will pay big dividends for our competitive youth teams.  And we look for our coach education program to bring distinction at a national level.  I’m also hoping to build a stronger connection between our community based programs and our elite sports teams.”

Ward is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Columbia University.  Most recently, he consulted for a wide range of clients involved in athletics as a Principal with Casco Bay Associates.  Formerly, he was Ashmead White Director of Athletics at Bowdoin College where he built a nationally acclaimed athletic department.  The program featured 31 varsity teams and an extensive collection of fitness and recreational opportunities.  Prior to Bowdoin, he was an athletic administrator and coach at Brown University, Columbia University, and the United States Military Academic at West Point.  He was also a member of the State of Maine Commission on Sports Done Right and has chaired the Brunswick, Maine Recreation Commission for over a decade.  He has been a frequent invited speaker on inclusion in athletics and leadership development through sports.

“I feel privileged to join my new colleagues at Asphalt Green,” stated Ward.  “Throughout the interview process, I was impressed by everyone’s passion to ensure that all New Yorkers can reap the benefits and joy of fitness and sports.  Great facilities and a talented staff make for a powerful combination.”
