Asphalt Green offers free flag football, basketball, and soccer leagues for middle school students. In the past decade, over 20,000 kids from New York City schools have played in Asphalt Green’s Community Sports Leagues.

HOW IT WORKS:

Asphalt Green partners with schools in low-income neighborhoods that have limited access to organized sports. We administer the league at low cost to schools and provide kids with free uniforms, professional referees, equipment, and instructional clinics with Asphalt Green coaches. The curriculum in our Community Sports Leagues mirrors our recreational and competitive teams.

Being part of a team means being able to depend on your teammates, work together, trust each other, respect each other, and become a family. This impacts me on a day-to-day basis because it reminds me of my most important goals: go to class, finish all four years of high school, and get a scholarship to college for either singing or basketball.

WHY WE ARE BREAKING BARRIERS TO SPORTS:

The impact of sports goes beyond the field. Community Sports Leagues teach lifelong lessons in leadership, self-esteem, teamwork, and confidence. Kids learn how to balance academics and athletics.

Most kids quit sports by age 11. Early exposure to sports increases the likelihood of continued participation. Asphalt Green fosters a love for the game for a lifetime.

Athletes are more likely than non-athletes to attend college, earn degrees, and hold executive positions in their careers.
