4 Questions to Ask Before You Build Your 2026 Fitness Routine

It’s that time of year again. With 2026 right around the corner, fitness centers are gearing up for a wave of new members eager to stick to their resolutions, and experienced athletes ready to revamp their fitness routines

It’s great to channel the energy, enthusiasm, and motivation each New Year brings to your fitness. But, it’s equally important to make sure you head into your training prepared with a plan tailored to your needs and goals.

To help you get started, our experts at AG Fitness suggest these four questions to consider as you gameplan your 2026 fitness routine. For extra support, our trainers are always here to help you build a detailed fitness plan of your own.

1. How many days a week are you willing to commit?

The secret ingredient to a successful fitness journey is consistency, but consistency is different for every athlete. Sustaining workouts throughout the next year means you have to create a schedule that fits your life. But, even two or three sessions per week can make a big difference for your long-term goals.

Once you’ve figured out what’s realistic with your commitments, you can plan your workouts accordingly and ensure you’re progressing at a healthy pace.

2. What equipment and membership do I need?

The beauty of fitness is that there’s countless ways to live a healthier, more active life, depending on what brings you joy. Whether you love to swim, want to dance alongside friends, or build strength in the weight room, it’s important to find a place where you can practice what you love, and explore new ways to stay active to keep you engaged throughout the year.

Fortunately, Asphalt Green offers more than 50 group exercises per week, state-of-the-art fitness centers, and wimming access, plus pickleball, and basketball at our Battery Park City campus.

3. In the past, what has prevented you from creating or sticking with a routine?

The greatest athletes will tell you that falling short is just an opportunity for growth. If you’ve tried to build a fitness journey before but couldn’t stick with it, reflect on what the determining factors were.

Fatigue, injury, busy schedules, and boredom are a few of many reasons why prioritizing a fitness routine can be a challenge. But once you’re aware of your obstacles, you can build around them.

Struggle with motivation? Train with a friend. Have a recurring injury? Consult with an expert. With proper planning, nothing can get between you and a more active lifestyle.

4. Do I need help from an exercise specialist to reach my goals or create a program?

You may not need a trainer to know what you want out of your fitness routine, but having one can drastically increase your chances of staying consistent and eventually achieving your goals. Expert support is especially important for those new to the gym, recovering from injury, or pursuing elite athletics.

At AG Fitness, we help athletes take on each exercise with proper form, progress safely, stay accountable, and connect with their community.
