Our lifeguards are gearing up for The Big Swim! While your children race to the finish during the 20th anniversary of the swim meet, our lifeguards will make sure everyone is safe and having a blast. Hear some of their favorite memories of The Big Swim and why they are excited to be a part of the action this year.

Frank Martinez: Head Lifeguard

Years involved in The Big Swim: Six years

Favorite part of event: Watching the kids I’ve taught compete and do well in their events.

Favorite memory: Making my first save at my first The Big Swim.

Joe Lara: Head Lifeguard and Swim Instructor

Years involved in The Big Swim: Four years

Favorite part of event: Watching the children swim 25 yards. The excitement brings out the kid in everyone and a sense of aspiration is restored. Although it is only 25 yards, I'd like to think we all start there and aim for greater heights.

Favorite memory: When we recognized Lia Neal for bringing an Olympic medal back home.

Angela Burgos: Head Lifeguard and Swim Instructor

Years involved in The Big Swim: Three years

Favorite part of event: Seeing the kids that I taught in Waterproofing (Asphalt Green’s free swim instruction and water safety program for kids in New York City) or in lessons compete in front of their family. I enjoy seeing the progress they made in my class.

Favorite memory: When the Shecky the Shark, Asphalt Green’s mascot, dances for all to see.

Alexandra Radulovich: Lifeguard

Years involved in The Big Swim: Two years

Favorite part of event: The ability to showcase our talent and skills—jumping into action while having fun and cheering on the children in their races.

Favorite memory: Watching the Olympic divers perform their routine.

Mark your calendars for April 25, and register for The Big Swim today!
