On November 7, Asphalt Green’s very own Swim School Administrator Angel Macias will step up to the starting line of the New York City Marathon with more than 30,000 other people. As one of Asphalt Green’s charity racers, Angel is racing not only for himself but also to improve the lives of New Yorkers through sports and fitness. Get to know Angel better and find out what motivated him to run 26.2.

Q: What inspired or motivated you to run the New York City marathon?

A:  I have lived in New York City my whole life and grew up seeing the race. It has always been a dream of mine to run it. I am especially looking forward to seeing my friends and family along the way, cheering me on.

Q: Why did you want to run with Team Asphalt Green?

A:  I take great pride in being a supervisor for Asphalt Green’s Waterproofing program. I'm looking forward to raising money for future generations to enjoy sports, swimming, and fitness, which is what Asphalt Green is all about.

Q: What do you love about running?

A: I love how every run can be a different experience depending on the day. Running can be whatever you want it to be. With everything we have to juggle day to day, having alone  time outdoors and the freedom to go anywhere feels great.

Q: How do you stay motivated during training?

A: I think of my family and how a healthy lifestyle is such a challenge today for my parents and my young nieces and nephews. I hope seeing me maintain a level of fitness and exercise will inspire them to start their own fitness journeys.

Q:  Why are sports and fitness important?

A: From an early age, sports and competition were a big part of me. Growing up, I've always felt fitness and competition went hand in hand, and staying active reconnects me to my youth. My own competitive edge makes me want to find new ways to compete and remain fit as I grow older.

Q: What songs are on your running playlist?

A: I tend to be more of a podcast than a music guy. I like getting lost in a conversation about things I love, including sports, science,, and the news. I keep up with current events in the world as much as possible.
