Zumba Party Outside City Hall

May 18, 2015

Shimmy, shake, and make some noise in front of City Hall! Join us as we Zumba in the street to remind our city officials how important Asphalt Green is to the community. We won’t stop the beat until the mayor moves the ramp

What: Zumba led by Hans Tondereau, one of our most sought-after instructors!

When: Thursday, May 21, 12pm-1pm

Where: City Hall (Broadway between Warren Street and Murray Street)

Getting there: We will provide free transportation from our Upper East Side campus. A bus will depart at 11am and return at 1pm. Please email [email protected] if you are planning on taking the bus. T-shirts, water, and snacks will be provided.

Subway: N,R to City Hall; 4,5,6 to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall; A,C,J,Z to Chambers; 2,3 to Park Place

Back up, why is moving the ramp important?

New York City wants to put a garbage truck ramp between two playgrounds at East 91st Street, putting 400,000 children at risk every year. The ramp will route 150 garbage trucks per day between these two playgrounds. It’s a traffic disaster waiting to happen.

There is a simple solution: Move the ramp just one block. A garbage truck ramp shouldn’t be built where kids play. Being struck by a vehicle is the leading cause of injury-related death for children under 14. Moving the ramp will keep trucks on wider commercial routes and sharply limit their use of residential streets and crosswalks.

We need your help! We hope to see you Zumba-ing in front of the mayor’s office. You can tweet your pictures and support to @BilldeBlasio and @asphaltgreen using hashtag #movetheramp. Don’t forget to sign the petition.
