FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Playground Pathways is Asphalt Green’s signature movement and fitness skill-building class designed for children to build foundational skills for physical play. The class focuses on gross motor development, social group norms, and confidence in movement through games, structured activities, and imaginative play.

Playground Pathways is geared toward children ages 5 to 12 who may need extra support developing motor skills, body awareness, and comfort in group and physical play settings. It’s especially welcoming for neurodivergent and disabled athletes, though all children are welcome.

In class, your child will practice important gross motor skills like jumping, climbing, and balancing. They’ll build strength and coordination through fun fitness stations and equipment such as the bosu ball, box jumps, and medicine balls. Kids will also play recess-style games that encourage teamwork and social interaction, while learning group routines like lining up, taking turns, following directions, and cheering for others.

Our classes are designed with inclusivity at the center. With small class sizes and a 2:1 athlete-to-coach ratio, every child receives personalized attention. Coaches use visual supports, clear instructions, and structured routines to help athletes feel comfortable and confident.

Activities are flexible and adapted to meet a wide range of developmental and physical needs, while progress is celebrated at each child’s own pace. We also begin with an intake process to align on family goals, ensuring that each athlete’s holistic development is supported both in and out of class.

No! Caregivers are encouraged to leave, unless necessary to facilitate the athlete’s safety within the group.

Yes. Our instructors are experienced in working with children who have IEPs/504s and will adjust activities to best support your child. You are encouraged to share strategies that help your child succeed.

Each Playground Pathways session is 50 minutes. The Fall 2025 season runs weekly on Saturdays from September 16 to December 20. Additional registration info can be found below!

As all of our community classes are inclusive and open to the public, they do qualify for OPWDD Self-Direction reimbursement, and we are happy to provide all documentation needed to support. We do not take Direct Pay or Medicaid Waiver.

At Asphalt Green, we believe every child deserves the chance to play, grow, and thrive through sports. To help make that possible, reduced rates based on household income are available for AG Sports programs at Major R. Owens Health & Wellness Community Center.
