REP Game: Tic-Tac-Toe Relay
Recess is the perfect time for kids to burn off energy, practice teamwork, and build confidence through playful challenges. Tic-Tac-Toe Relay combines a classic relay race with a game of strategy, as teams sprint to place and move their cones to be the first to get 3 in a row.

Who: Grades 3 to 5
Players: 10 +
Set-up: 2 teams / tic-tac-toe board
Time: 10+ minutes
Where: Small playground
Equipment: 6 cones, 9 hula hoops
EXPLAIN
- Line up! I am going to make 2 teams: Team X and Team O. Each team should have a different color cone. Give the first 3 players on each team cones of their color.
- Set up hula hoops in a tic-tac-toe board on the opposite end of the teams.
- On “GO”, the first player on each team races to the tic-tac-toe board, places a cone on the board, and runs back.
- The second player on the team goes after the first player runs back and gives them a high-five.
- After 3 players have gone, the next players can move one of their team’s cones. The game continues until a team gets 3 in a row.
